Idris Elba Set To Play Quasimodo in Netflix's THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME

by Joey Paur

Idris Elba is set to star in and direct Netflix's modern-day retelling of Victor Hugo's classic 1831 novel The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The original story centers on Quasimodo, a hunchback, who falls in love with the Gypsy Esmeralda.

The new film is not connected to Disney, but it will feature original music. According to THR, it is described as a "sonic and musical experience."

The script for the film is being written by Michael Mitnick, who previously wrote The Current War and The Giver. The Huncback of Notre Dame will be Elba's second feature film directing gig. He previously directed the Sundance hit Yardie. He did a solid job with that film, so I imagine this next one will turn out good as well.

A modern-day retelling of this classic story will certainly be interesting to see. We don't have any other details at the moment, but what do you think about Elba taking on this story? Can you even imagine Idris Elba as Quasimodo!?
