The Disorienting Beauty of Spiral Staircases in Old Abandoned Buildings
Christian Richter is a fine art architecture photographer based in the small town of Jeßnitz, Germany. A fan of exploring old, abandoned buildings, Richter has often come across tall spiral staircases that look both beautiful and disorienting when viewed from the very top looking down. These staircases form a photo series of his that is aptly titled, “Abandoned Staircases.”
Richter tells us that he grew up in East Germany. After the reunification of Germany, many large buildings ended up being abandoned in Richter’s part of the country. He began exploring these structures for fun and then began to focus on them years later when he entered the world of photography.
“You must visit many, many buildings to find a great staircase,” Richter says. He now travels across Europe in search of them. Once he locates one, he sets up his Canon 5D mark II, 16-35mm f/2.8 L lens, and tripod, and then composes a photograph to focus on the patterns and textures “of impermanence.”
Many of the shots are 5 frame HDR photos that have been lightly processed in Lightroom and Photoshop. Here’s a selection of the photos so far:

The Internet Archive Adds Nearly 2,400 MS-DOS Video Games for Browser-Based Play
The Internet Archive has added nearly 2,400–currently 2,388 to be exact–MS-DOS video games to their Software Library for browser-based play. The Software Library also includes a slightly larger collection of general MS-DOS programs. We previously wrote about the addition of a Console Living Room which featured a large collection of vintage console video games playable in a browser.
Jason Scott, the man behind the lion’s share of work on these projects, has written up a lengthy post about the whole ordeal and what’s coming next.
First, I really worked hard to have only fully-functioning programs up, or at least, programs that gave viable, useful feedback. Some of them will still fall over and die, and many of them might be weird to play in a browser window, and of course you can’t really save things off for later, and that will limit things too. But on the whole, you will experience some analogue of the MS-DOS program, in your browser, instantly.

Artist Jeremy Miranda Examines Memory with Oil Landscapes that Bleed into Interiors
Artist Jeremy Miranda is fascinated with how the mind creates memories and the juxtaposition of experiences both real and perceived. His oil paintings overlap interior and exterior environments to create unexpected relationships between disparate subjects, usually natural versus man-made. The interior of an artist’s studio dissolves into a bucolic river landscape, a bookshelf leads into the ocean, or a glowing furnace is concealed below quiet pond. Miranda most recently had an exhibit at Nahcotta Gallery in New Hampshire where several of his original works are currently available. Some of his most popular images are also available as prints. Heavy Metals: New Underwater Ink and Metal Photographs by Alberto Seveso
Damiani.guilhermeAll hail the dark lord Cthullu!
Bristol-based illustrator and photographer Alberto Seveso (previously) just shared a new collection of underwater ink photographs titled Heavy Metals. Seveso achieves the ethereal forms in his photographs by mixing ink with metallic powders which are then suspended in different fluids. You can see more of his fluid-based photography and illustration in his portfolio.
